Studio Workshop One: Trent Jansen Studio (Trent Jansen)

Trent Jansen focuses on studying the history and culture of human societies and taking design inspiration

from the rich stories that punctuate human heritage. Every project developed is designed to speak to its

owner on an emotional level, becoming an important artefact in the life of the owner, and forging a long-standing, meaningful relationship with that individual, family or organization

Feature: Explore the unique identities of individuals, families and communities.

Verb Explore - Explore the identity of an individual or single-family group.

Adjective Cultural - the intersection of indigenous and non-indigenous narrative is a focal point of the design that aims to foster a new Australian culture of hybrid stories, informed by both Indigenous Australian and European traditions.

Noun Mythology - Furniture and objects suggests the conflating myths as central figures for a national mythology.

Studio Workshop Two: Mountain & Moon (Audrey Allen and Ashton Cameron)

The studio is created to celebrate the love for jewellery that embodies an exotic nature. It's all about strong, sexy statement jewels and their pieces embody a range of styles and eras.

Feature: high quality, timeless and unique with a distinct signature aesthetic.

Verb Elevate - An unapologetic spirit behind the brand and a fresh & exciting appeal that stands out in the crowd. MM Jewels make women feel ‘Stunning’ and that is what the label is all about.

Adjective Aesthetic - Ultimate golden aesthetic.

Noun Statement - Statement Jewels for Statement Women.

Part 4：Staircase concept model and development

1. Section selected for the studio workshops

Upper level: Mountain & Moon Studio Workshop

Lower Level: Trent Jansen Studio Workshop

The Mountain & Moon Studio will be located on the second floor, while the Trent Jansen Studio will be on the below-ground level. This arrangement is based on the different design nature and philosophy of these two studios. For jewellry design, it is usually necessary to be in a bright space to observe the refractive transformation of the gemstone in the sun. Also, placing the M&M workshop on the second floor is in line with the studio's design concept ‘elevate’. For TJ Studio, the main designs of this group are large-scale products and furniture and the large-scale equipment may be used. The underground floor will have a relatively large expansion space, and it will also allow reducing the dust and noise caused by the mechanical operation to the residents.

Mountain Moon Studio's design is inspired by one of its jewelry designs. From the exterior, the entire studio is a gem. The thorns above represent a strong wild beauty, showing the concept of the studio ‘Jewellry makes you a queen’. The exterior surface will use translucent to reflect the characteristics of the jewellry. The white wall will reflect the sunlight and make it shine like a gemstone. It also implies that the jewelry designed by the studio will make the women who wear it stunning.

The design of Trent Jansen Studio is inspired by the culture of the indigenous tribe, with special symbol patterns on the walls. The sharp corners represent the conflict of different cultures and the unique identity of the individual while the arc design represents the fusion between each design and its history.

3. First sketchup model for the selected stair

In the frist attempt, the design of the L-shaped stair is chosen to connect the showroom on the ground foor to the Mountain & Moon Studio on the second floor. Following is the sketchup model for the stair and the M&M studio.

The stair consists of two opposite directions composition stairs and landing switchback. The tread size of the white marble staircase is 1500mm * 150mm * 300 mm. Instead of the nomal rectangular platform, a sharp edge is created on the corner to represent the strong attitude. A red carpet with a gold pattern on the top adds a gorgeous element to the stair. When people walk on the this stair under the sunshine, they will looks like a shining star. The balustrade is made of deep red mahogany wood, and the ring-shaped vases are placed on the side with roses. There are three showcases on the platform to show the studio's newest designs and the plants to enhance the beauty of the stair.

3. Second sketchup model for the stair

In the second attempt, the first design was completely deprecated. The new design connects the three floors with a huge staircase to form an iconic public area. The large white marble staircase shown below connects the lower floors, the ground, and the upper floors, and a large ramp is built at the top to facilitates the inconvenience. People can easily access every level from this huge stair. Two ends of the staircase are connected to the entrances of two workshops separately. The surface of the large staircase is painted from the inspiration of the piano key to add dynamic to the design. Also, there is a parallel staircase from the lower workshop to the showroom which can be seen from the section-cut picture to allow the convenient transport of the big furniture and product to the showroom. Overall, these two staircases integral three different levels altogether create a visual communication platform allowing people to perform their daily schedules.

3. Final sketchup model for the stair

Urban terrain

In the final development of the stair, the urban terrain is built to identify the position of the staircase. Four parts were redevelopment in this process. First, the lower floors were redesigned as open spaces for public facilities, such as toilets. This gives people more accessible space to gather. Also, the ground level of the staircase connects the ground with bridges. (The second image)

The decoration arc on the top of the M&M workshop was also redesigned to allow the integration of the whole building. It can be seen from the following picture that the arcs are cross through three level to form the support to the building. Aslo, the structure of the M&M studio is also changed to a egg-shaped to echoes the arch on above and on the staircase.

The last modification was the color of the stairs. To make this public area more integrated with the surrounding urban area, the colors were reset to similar and warm colors instead of white and black marble.
